About Hummel Hummel Bake Shop

Grandpa John crafting his trade in 1950's Germany.

In the 1950’s, Grandpa John was an apprentice in Germany studying the art of baking until he came to America at 18 years old with a dollar and a dream. He worked in bakeries mastering his art before opening  Hummel Hummel Bake Shop in 1968 with a little help from his brother, wife, and mother. His son Derek, who started coming to the bakery as a young child, napping on flour bags and then scraping the floor, eventually learned and perfected the trade himself.
